progresso, mexico, uxmal ruins {vacation}

In January, Heather & Clint got married on the beach in Cozumel, & I photographed the wedding. Since we were on a cruise, Jake & I got to spend the next day touring the Uxmal ruins in Progresso, Mexico. For some reason, I was expecting a huge hike to get to the pyramids, but was pleasantly surprised when our van took us almost all the way to the base. Our tour group was very small, & we got to roam around for about 2 hours. I wasn't expecting there to be so many ruins in one spot. You could definitely tell this used to be a thriving city. The guide said that the pyramids are solid stone & that the priests would climb up these steps twice a day for sacrifices. That baffled my mind after seeing how steep those steps are.

Also on our wedding cruise were two friends from high school, Becky & Brant. Do we look American/Texan or what?

These were the only steps we were allowed to climb on, & I was happy to be back on solid ground. The best way to go up or down was to go diagonally, & don't be afraid to use your hands.

All I can think of when I see these photos is Legends of the Hidden Temple.

The Mayans did play a version of soccer/basketball on these courts, & I have no idea how it was possible to get a ball through that hoop.

Looking down on the same court.
