megan&sean {happily ever after}

This adorable couple is celebrating their one year anniversary! Snuggle up with your favorite beverage & take a peek into Megan & Sean's married life. They're so dang cute.

1. What was your most memorable moment?
Sean // For me, just standing at the altar with Megan & our friend Jonathan (the pastor who married us) was the most memorable moment. Megan & I were looking at each other & both thinking "This is really happening!"
Megan // I absolutely loved our first look. My heart was beating so fast, & then we saw each other. Oh, he was just so sweet & handsome in his tux. The joy in that very first moment was so big & so special. I will also always remember planning the wedding with my mom. She's the most incredible woman I know, & we just had so much fun. She actually did a lot of the set up while my makeup was being done, & I will never forget walking into the reception & seeing it all so beautifully & carefully put together. Thanks, Mom!!

2. What were the inspirations for your wedding? themes? Why did you pick this time of year?
The biggest inspiration was hands down that we believe in the love of Jesus Christ, & we get a glimpse of that love here on Earth in marriage. We wanted to share the love we know in Jesus with our friends & family above anything else. We are both a bit of a romantic at heart, so I (Megan) really just picked things that felt timeless & romantic. Like big fluffy peonies, classic black tuxedoes, & a long veil-SWOON! We didn't originally intend to have a July wedding because of the Texas heat, but that's the only availability our venue had for the next year. It ended up working out beautifully because all of our relatives with kids were on summer break schedule & could make the trip to Texas for the wedding. That was another central inspiration for us-family. Our families have been right next to us throughout our entire relationship, & knew from the beginning of our engagement that we wanted to serve our friends & family through hospitality. We focused on choosing a great meal, a DJ that would help us dance the night away, & fellowship with the people we love!

3. Was there anything that was not worth fussing over? In other words, did you have a bridezilla/groomzilla moment over something that was insignificant?
Sean // For some reason I was convinced that a witness had to sign the marriage license in addition to the pastor who married us, so I kept reminding my best man that he needed to sign it. But it turned out the only signature that was needed was the pastor's.
Megan // I probably spent too much time going back & forth on the centerpieces. I finally just had to stop & remind myself that the flowers were not the main focus of our wedding day. Our florist was amazing, & the flowers looked more beautiful than I could have imagined when I stopped fussing & let her be the flower expert.

4. Any advice for those planning now?
Sean // For the grooms, have a lot of patience, & be as decisive as you can. Nothing is more frustrating for your bride than when she asks for your opinion & you say "Oh I don't care, whatever you want." Also, get a really great photographer that you feel comfortable with & that helps you relax a bit. It helps when you're like me & don't feel super comfortable in front of the camera. Hint: if you're reading this, you're pretty close to a really great photographer!
Megan // Remember the most important thing after all of the effort you put into planning is that you will be married to the love of your life! If you keep that at the front of your thoughts, everything else is just a bonus!

While time consuming & a little obnoxious, do your research on vendors-cost, services offered, portfolio, etc. Everything was so easy because we chose vendors that we really liked & trusted. They all showed up & made everything more beautiful than we could have imagined.

Sean & I were also long distance for our year of engagement, so I would encourage any other long distance couples to take what we liked to call a "wedding Sabbath." It is so easy to spend all of your time thinking about wedding details, so we made a conscious effort to take rests from thinking about the wedding & to focus on the precious time we had together in our engagement.

Tell me about married life!

1. What has been the easiest & hardest parts about adjusting to married life?
Sean // The easiest part is not being long distance anymore! We lived long distance for a year while we were engaged, but now we get to live together! The hardest part has been balancing our family time & deciding which holidays to spend with which set of parents (& grandparents).
Megan // Honestly, being married to Sean is the easiest thing. He is truly the kindest, most patient person, & spending every day with him is the absolute best. It's amazing how quickly I got used to seeing his sweet face in the morning. It's also pretty nice that the coffee is already brewed when I wake up.

The hardest part has definitely been the little idiosyncrasies you only learn when you're with somebody every day. We didn't live together until we got married, so I never really thought about how he likes to load the dishwasher or that he likes to grind his coffee beans every single morning at 6:00 AM. We have also been getting used to a compromise on bed time. Sean turns into a (very cute) pumpkin around 10:00 PM, & I'm a total night owl! The other hardest part is realizing just how selfish & stubborn I can be. Praise God for unconditional love & grace, & for a sweet husband that has a forgiving heart.

2. What's been the most surprising thing you've learned about each other?
Sean // I always knew Megan can bake homemade goods like nobody's business, but I have been amazed at how quickly & easily she can whip up a batch of cookies, brownies, cake, pie, etc. literally on a moment's notice. Also, that woman can Tetris the fridge better than anyone.

Megan // Goodness gracious, that man clips his toenails all the time. Oh, & he can juggle quite well.

3. What do you guys do to spend time together? Do you have weekly dates? something nightly? monthly?
We try to make sure we have a date every week, which could look like watching a movie, going to dinner, or maybe cooking together. We love cooking together. We spend a lot of time taking our dog, Molly, for walks or playing with her in our apartment. We both like to plan dates, & we like to try a new restaurant or take a fun day trip every month. We also spend a lot of time rowing together. We met on the crew team at Texas A&M, so rowing is a pretty big part of our time together. #rowmance

4. What did you do, or will you do, to celebrate your one year anniversary?
We are going to be on a family trip the weekend before, so we are looking forward to a few days of relaxing. Sean is planning a sweet date for just the two of us on the actual day of our anniversary!

5. Any plans for the future? Or, rather, what would you like to have done/seen/experience in the next five years?
Megan should finish with her RN in the next few years, & Sean would really like to earn his MBA. We would love to have our own home with a big backyard for our doggo (& maybe a few chickens). Eventually we would love to fill it up with kiddos, but we would really like to travel to some other countries & see the world together first!
